AUTHOR & MEDITATION TEACHER
Meditation for Psychedelic Journeys
Buddhist practices to prepare for a journey, meet whatever arises with compassion, and integrate your insights into daily life.
My Path
I’ve practiced Tibetan Buddhism for 20+ years and began incorporating psychedelics into my therapeutic and spiritual path 7 years ago.
I co-authored Emptiness and Joyful Freedom and am now writing a book on Buddhism and psychedelics. As a founding member of Psychedelic Sangha, I teach, organize conferences, and host a speaker series.
My work is for those who are curious how meditation can benefit psychedelic journeying, psychedelic therapy clients seeking deeper spiritual integration, and thoughtful journeyers of all kinds. The aim is safer, more meaningful journeys, as well as a path that continues beyond healing into awakening.
I hold a Ph.D. in mathematics and have over 20 years of experience as a research scientist in academic and industrial research—a background that equips me to apply analytical rigor to the emerging psychedelic science.
Why meditation and psychedelics?
Psychedelics and meditation enrich one another.
Psychedelic journeys have democratized mystical experiences. A single journey can bring awe, a felt sense of connection, and a glimpse of who we are beneath our stories. Yet many of us lack contemplative tools to extend that freedom, beauty, and mystery into daily life.
Buddhism’s time-tested teachings and practices offer a map to do just that. Meditation trains us to work with our minds. We learn to enter a journey with clear intention, openness, and a more positive emotional state, and to meet whatever arises—whether bliss, fear, or confusion—with curiosity and warmth instead of resistance. Research suggests this kind of preparation influences both how a journey unfolds and how much lasting benefit it brings.
Buddhist-derived self-compassion and refuge practices also work well with harm reduction and communal care strategies developed by the psychedelic community. Together, they offer a more reliable foundation for safety.
